Presenter: Cherie J. Ulaskas, M.T. (A.S.C.P.), M.AS. Associate Director, Department of Standards Interpretation

Cherie Ulaskas is an Associate Director in the Department of Standards Interpretation at the Joint Commission. Her responsibilities include responding to external and internal customer inquiries regarding standards interpretation. In this capacity, she interprets standards for all Joint Commission accreditation programs and primarily interprets for Hospital and Laboratory programs.

Ms. Ulaskas has worked for the Joint Commission since 1989. She has held positions in Accreditation Operations, Department of Standards, and the Manager of the Good Practices Database for Joint Commission Resources. She also worked as a Medical Technologist at St. James Medical Center in Illinois before joining the Joint Commission.

During her career at the Joint Commission, Ms. Ulaskas has served as mentor for survey report analysts, managed the standards database, developed standards related to clinical practice guidelines and continuum of care, and developed a product containing examples of compliance with Joint Commission standards.

Ms. Ulaskas earned undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences from Southern Illinois University and Medical Technology from Governors State University. In addition, she received a Masters Degree in Communication from Governors State University. She also currently serves as adjunct faculty in Communications at Robert Morris University.
